Hype and Excitement over Hard Work and Real Opportunity
________________________________________________________________
Today young music artists, rap artists a filmmakers do not recognize opportunity, plain and simple. There's so much hype in the air and over the main high way (which is the internet) and in this day of purchaseable analytics, who needs opportunity right? that means in most cases hard work! Ah, there it is. Many of today's artists want the fame, they want the money, want the acclaim, but they just want it, for most actually putting in the hard work is what makes the few out of the many. What about the artists who
will put in the work but doesn't recognize the signs on his or her road to success? This is an unfortunate person indeed. Many music artists and rappers alike get caught up in social success, and or local success. Filmmakers are the same way. Many get themselves mentally locked into a "movement"
that ain't movin and miss opportunity all together. And lets face it, some filmmakers no different than some artist are just dumb, not a crime just inconvenient to themselves in some important matters that can take them to the next level.
1) Youtube. NOW YES, Youtube is that beast that can help you help yourself do ALLOT especially get signed, get a deal for whatever you are doing. But there are differences!!!!! If you have millions even hundreds of thousands of hits, not only are you actually affecting people, but you will make money with youtube and from them in adshares. But if you're greatest claim to fame in youtube hits is 3000 YOU ARE NOT AFFECTING ANYBODY OR ANYTHING!!!!! And to think that you are is more stupid than I can describe. Many get locked into just making art for youtube. Stop being afraid and go for distribution or at least in addition see how you fair in getting your art where you KNOW an audience is there. You might surprise yourself.
2) FACEBOOK KING/QUEEN Facebook is aight, but it doesn't represent who you really are, we lie so damn much on facebook, do not use it as an assistant publicist unless you have one and they have an assistant operating your page. Sometimes it pays to post your work there or full work there but unless, you have a greater plan and some do, be careful of what of your work you post there, sometimes, we devalue our work and hard work without knowing it. Know the difference.
3) "WELL I HAVE A WEBSITE, I put all my work there"
Great, but when you go to sell it, especially where an entity is paying advertisement time, it will do you justice to TAKE IT OFF OF YOUR WEBSITE If I'm paying for your piece to be on a show, to get audience for myself, why would I want you to have it on your site for free in the same term which I'm paying advertisement for?? More over, sometimes, keep some of your work, held back and use what you have out there just a little while longer, especially if you have not hit a wide audience yet, in this case there is still much more work to be done. Many artists and filmmakers, put on release dates and complete dates on promotions of projects and projects as if millions of people are listening and have been buying lol! If that's not you then your old music you made 2 years ago, your OLD film you made 2 years ago, IS STILL NEW!!!! Don't lose focus on what is real and what is not. Often we still have much more work to do on a current project make sure you see this and understan it before you move on
AND MOST OF ALL Sell your work!! get in there and make the money with your art and stop
giving it away!!!!
OPPORTUNITY
Its out there. Music and Rap artists. Many of you have the same stories, "Yeah, def jam came down here to sign me but I didn't like the deal so I turned t down" Meanwhile you don't have money for loosies. "Yeah, Interscope sat right in my living room, but what happened was, right, they didn't..." Yeah ok. Yeah LionsGate had me come down...I got screwed over because..." Listen I understand. I understand that these are all lies. There are people who have not had $10, 000 at one time, $4,000 at one time, $2,000 at one time, if a top 10 distributor, music or film group sits you down anywhere, numbers larger than that will be mentioned and soon paid after, and YOU ARE NOT TURNING IT DOWN!!! I don't care what the hell you ddn't like, you are signing anyway! So lets stop bullshittin YOU shall we:). Listen, many of us are great at our jobs, we do whatever and anything we can to do a good job and to be seen by the "boss" or the "tell on you person" that we are doing a great job! Yes, to get that 4% raise that's gonna help us move next year into the TWO bedroom apartment, yes, yes, But in our own "businesses" we SUCK!!!! are piss poor at the job, Our jobs, we recognize everything!! For our music or film production, our vision goes as far as a handful of people telling us "Yo, you turned that shit up!!" Seriously?? Open your eyes, and manage your business, singer, rapper, bass player, writer, filmmaker, read, research look into it, when an opportunity comes your way, or right by you enough that you can reach and grab it. And most importantly, be careful who you are listening to and why. If the person you are listening to is known generally to be stupid, then... Make sure the person who is advising you has some experience in what they are talking about, all too often there have been people in the ear of artists who don't know shit!! But they were there for you in 2002 when Bucky died, listen I get it, I understand, but if you take your art serious, then seriously, be mindful who is advising you, that's all I'm saying.
