Syesmind's rant of the week
Do Some of us filmmakers lack the heart or are just plain dumb ?
RAP AND OTHER MUSIC ARTISTS ARE WAY SMARTER THAN us filmmakers, by far, in my opinion. Lets take rap artists for example, even the most unknown, brokest, no chance at it, rap artist goes allot harder than Indie filmmakers trying to make it. An aspiring rap artist will do whatever they must, even if knowingly won't bring them allot but a little, they will shoot for such goals as if a million dollars were at the end of it. I've seen broke rappers create the resources they need enough, if just to get through the week. But not really so, with undiscovered filmmakers. And first of all lets not be fooled by the amazing smoke screening some of these filmmakers do on Facebook, twitter, vimeo and where ever else they "brand" their work, if you want to call it that. Ninety percent of the filmmakers I know use Youtube, twitter and less, but still do, Facebook as if it were a distributor. They actually think they are being affective and (here's the funny one) "affecting people" LISTEN!!! UNLESS YOU HAVE MINIMUM 5 TO 10, 000 HITS on ANYTHING posted on social mediums, (mind you Im not talking about having 20,000 hits that took you 8 years to get) you aren't affecting ANYTHING!!!!!!! But you can't tell these catz this, they look at you like YOU are the stupid one. Recently an Apple TV Network named E.M.N. Network (Elements Media Network) egan posting everywhere, for filmmakers and producers, with shows, that they are accepting shows and films from filmmakers to air on the network, and would share a maximum of 60% of the ad share for your show. Checkit out its all true, well, I've had shows on TV with Networks like EMN, and its a great situation for a few reasons, I'll tell you why. You get a chance to see how you fare up in a market that YOU ARE NOT IN YET, even if you made no money, you would have an excellent market research study on your work, that is invaluable, that most people couldn't afford to pay for. hell, that reason alone is reason that something like Apple Tv is great, but also, Networks like EMN have a viewer share, in their case its 2.5 million people, with network producers backing your film, show, who have 25 years and more experience in the business, and lastly, a chance to get to work in a situation whereby a Network is promoting your show, film, along with you, to gain the opportunity to MAKE MONEY with these files, you've been gving away for free on youtube, twitter and facebook, certainly making no money with your 400 hits you're so proud of. In talking with filmmakers and a few YOUTUBE PRODUCERS (I say that as a joke not a compliment) I found that many of them only had excuses as to why they could not send shows, films there, and the reasons are so stupid. So lets get this straight, you'd rather continue thinking you have a demographic with your total 5000 hits that 10 videos barely make up, fooling yourself, rather than to put your talent to the test of "DO I HAVE WHAT IT TAKES OR AM I KIDDING MYSELF"
Have some heart, you never know when the next opportunity will come by or if its coming back again at all. You need a story and unless you have 600,000 views on your show, film, Youtube ain't it!!!! Nobody's going to discover you on facebook, people are too busy, stars included, pushing their own interests on these mediums. Youtubeis a bit different but many filmmakers grossly put themselves into the same catogory as those who have MILLIONS of views who get discovered and think they have the exact same opportunity with their 256 views. WAKE THE F UP!!! At the end of the day, you as an artist, filmmaker whatever, who ever you are in these arts, have an obligation to yourself and the person(s) who's backing you to manage your career, better than you manage tasks on your day job. DO IT! Don't make dumb ass decisions, test yourself, you never know YOU MAY BE THAT PERSON but if you don't jump in the fight, you can't be the champion. There are no couch champions in any sport or art. Get to work and stop being so scared and stupid. You can do this, and don't need me to tell you this.
